Numbers 11:10-17
Moses heard all the families standing in the doorways of their tents whining, and the Lord became extremely angry. Moses was also very aggravated. 11 And Moses said to the Lord, “Why are you treating me, your servant, so harshly? Have mercy on me! What did I do to deserve the burden of all these people? 12 Did I give birth to them? Did I bring them into the world? Why did you tell me to carry them in my arms like a mother carries a nursing baby? How can I carry them to the land you swore to give their ancestors? 13 Where am I supposed to get meat for all these people? They keep whining to me, saying, ‘Give us meat to eat!’ 14 I can’t carry all these people by myself! The load is far too heavy! 15 If this is how you intend to treat me, just go ahead and kill me. Do me a favor and spare me this misery!”16 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Gather before me seventy men who are recognized as elders and leaders of Israel. Bring them to the Tabernacle to stand there with you. 17 I will come down and talk to you there. I will take some of the Spirit that is upon you, and I will put the Spirit upon them also. They will bear the burden of the people along with you, so you will not have to carry it alone.
“You can have control or you can have growth but you can’t have both.”
Today we are positioning ourselves for growth in 3 areas: Individually, numerically, spiritually.
1. We’re growing Individually.
These are the changes we need to make:
From showing up to do to showing up to lead.
From holding on tightly to handing off wisely.
From leading out of talent to leading out of character.
From asking “What can I do?” to asking “Who can I raise?”
From chasing affirmation to walking in security.
What I’m asking you:
Choose a person and train them to do all that you do.
Engage with close friends.
Ask for feedback and apply it.
2. We’re growing Numerically.
These are the changes we need to make:
From assuming people feel welcome to personally inviting them in.
From building teams for function to building teams for family.
From hoping people sign up to intentionally bringing people in.
From Sunday only engagement to everyday ownership.
From hoping to grow to training to grow.
What I’m asking you:
Ask at least one person to join your team every week.
Host a quick team touch point or hang out once a month.
Keep your team roster updated and active.
3. We’re growing Spiritually.
These are the changes we need to make:
From visiting God on Sundays to being with Him every day.
From seeking comfort to embracing conviction.
From spiritual survival to spiritual authority.
From feelings led leadership to Spirit led leadership.
From safe prayers to dangerous obedience.
What I’m asking you:
Prayer. Monthly prayer, pre service prayer and Tuesday morning prayer.
Read your word daily.
Attend a collective or lead a collective.
