Collective Leader Guide
Thank you for saying yes to leading a Collective.
We believe Collectives are one of the primary ways people find community, build relationships, and grow in their faith at Local. While Sundays help people encounter God, Collectives help people encounter both God and people. That's why your leadership matters so much.
Leading a Collective isn't about having all the answers or creating the perfect gathering. It's about creating space for people to belong, connect, and grow together.
Resources Available to You
Weekly Discussion Notes
Every Monday, discussion notes based on Sunday's message will be available at:
www.localchurchsd.com/collectivenotes
These notes are designed to make leading conversations simple and practical. Feel free to use them as written or adapt them to fit your group's dynamic.
New Collective Sign-Ups
Every Monday, our Admin Team will send you the names and contact information of new people who have expressed interest in joining your Collective.
As a Collective Leader, your responsibility is to personally reach out to each person.
A simple text message can make a huge difference.
Introduce yourself, welcome them, share the details of your next gathering, and help them feel connected before they ever walk through the door. People are far more likely to attend when they know someone is expecting them.
Remember: people don't just want to join a Collective. They want to connect to a person.
The Three Responsibilities of Every Collective Leader
1. Protect the Culture
As a leader, you help carry the culture of Local into every gathering.
Create an environment that reflects the heart of our church: welcoming, encouraging, authentic, faith-filled, and full of belonging.
People should leave feeling loved, valued, and excited to come back.
2. Protect the Health of the Collective
Healthy Collectives create safe spaces for meaningful conversations and genuine relationships.
Make room for people to participate. Learn names. Ask questions. Be engaged. Be inclusive.
Your goal isn't simply to host a meeting. It's to help people build community.
3. Protect Your Heart
You cannot pour from an empty cup.
Continue leaning into the life of our church. Stay connected on Sundays. Stay engaged as a member of Local. Prioritize your own relationship with Jesus.
And remember, you are not leading alone.
If you have questions, concerns, challenges, or simply need support, reach out to a pastor or leader. We are here to help you succeed.
Final Thought
You don't need to be perfect to lead a Collective.
You simply need to be available, faithful, and willing to create space for people.
Thank you for helping people find community, discover belonging, and take their next step with Jesus.
We're cheering you on every step of the way.
